| I'm about to work on a project where I will cut a floor ceramic tile into the shape of Texas. I'm assuming I will need to use a diamond wheel to do the job. Any suggestions for a newbie? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think you might use a carbide wheel in this case they should last longer than diamond. I f you do use diamond use a flex shaft and keep the diamond wheel very wet to keep it cool.

Hi Doug
Not having used the carbide or diamond wheels, I am curious as to why the carbide wheel will last longer then the diamond wheel. Is it because the diamond wheel cuts less aggressively requiring more time to get the job done?

Hi Curt the thing is about the diamond wheel is that on the edge the diamonds are thin so it will wear out rather quickly. The carbide wheel is carbide through and through therefore they last a little longer. I only use diamond on rock and glass.

Thanks Doug. After reading your post I took a look at a couple of the diamond burrs I have been using. From your description it would appear they are made the same way, just a coating similar to sand paper. Had I ever used the wheels you mentioned, I would have known. Learning from others experience is the driving purpose behind this message board. Thanks again to you and also to others I have learned from since joining the message board.

| I see Dremel has a cutting bit for ceramic wall tile. I take it that the wall tile bit will not work on ceramic floor tile because the floor tile is denser.
