Hi Doug! Thanks a lot. Well, it's not so dramatic! I'm used to translate inches to cm and viceversa since I have use of reason. We use both measures always here since both kinds are regularly used, though the metric system is getting to be slowly the basic standard.  Actually I have a regular metal tape just beside the pc and just look directly. I have many tables for written or on calculator programs at hand but the basic is that I'm used to "think in metric" and later translate mentally or with help, and that happens whether I "think in english or in spanish. Anyway it only means that I do what everyone else in the world does. In my explanation to Bruce I'm trying to explain to him that some things, as perhaps local expressions, or maybe slang, is something that takes a time to understand and sometimes unable to do so. For example he used expressions in his last message which I still don't get. Also in your message I still could not understand what you mean in: "Please give no invense" and so I'm not sure what your message considers in the last part. Sorry, Doug, but as I explained the lack of use of the language makes my wording a little stiff, at least it's what I feel. But anyway, and please, I dont' think that all this is an important issue for the forum and therefore out of the question for all other people who share their views, experience and questions. Thank you very much Doug, again, for you intention.

Enrique

Greetings Forum Members
I suspect that we Americans fail to realize that the scope of the Internet community is international. That is to say, we take for granite that the person to which we are responding could be several states away or just next door and forget that the person could actually be on the other side of the world. Even the people that have been around long enough to know how the term "computer bug" came into existence, know how to use a slide rule and remember when computers were using vacuum tubes(valves) have a tendency to let this fact slip their minds.

Without this realization of an International community, conflicting customs can cause friction between individuals. A commonplace remark or gesture can sometimes have the opposite meaning to citizens of different countries. This is quite evident in this thread and is the reason behind the development of "Internet etiquette". An example of this etiquette that we are all familiar with is typing in lower case instead of all capital letters. Unfortunately, this is one of the few that are still commonly used.

I am reminded of the line from the movie "Cool Hand Luke". "What we have here is a failure to communicate." In this International community of ours that is exactly what we will have when we don't choose our words with care and consideration.

That is my "2 cents" worth and I am now climbing down off this "soap box"

Good day to you Curt!

Thank you for your input which I feel opens an understanding path through. After reading it and reasoning for a while I conclude that it is possible that your point could have worked all the way around too. If that were the case I am ready to apologize. I still can't understand what happened but I am, almost surely, part of the problem so I am ready to be part of the solution if there is a misunderstanding.

Thanks

Enrique

****o Enrique and a Good Day to you!

First, you are welcome!

Second, while the post was addressed "Greetings Forum Members", in the following line I narrowed the target audience to "we Americans". It has been my experience that citizens of other countries exhibit much better online behavior than "we Americans". You, my friend, have been a fine example of this!

When we log onto the Internet, political boundaries disappear. This makes all of us unofficial ambassadors. With this in mind, we should conduct ourselves in the manner expected of our official foreign ambassadors.

I am sorry that you have had such a disagreeable experience and hope that it does not cause you to abandon any further participation on this forum.

Curt, thank you very much for your kind consideration. To make the story short -to the least- let me say that I met my wife in New York and we got married in St Patrick's Cathedral, Fifth Ave. During forty years, at least twice every working day I made or received calls to or from U.S. first by telex and later by phone. I forget how many times I went back. I walked all New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and traveled within US and to Canada. Organized and participated of seminars in European cities together with Americans. When my turn arrives I expect many already gone American friends will be in the reception committee in the other world. My difference with them will be that they will choose bourbon to say cheers and I'll prefer scotch. Let's keep pushing forward in this overcrowded world!

Greetings Enrique

This time I remembered that in this forum one can not say ****o!

I am afraid my tale is not quite as romantic as yours. I met my wife in an AOL chat room and we married in a court house. The little girl in my avatar, while not that little anymore, is the result.

So, you with a scotch and I with a bourbon, here is to pushing forward.
