I have never purchased one, but a friend of mine has and the kit comes with instructions.

If you own a Dremel and are an avid user, you will likely have all of the necessary bits and can find the "How to Build a Derby Car" instructions on the Dremel website.

Every year I say I am going to buy a kit, but I end up using the accessories that came with my Dremel rotary tool on the blocks of wood my boys get from the Cub Scouts. It is a great way to get your children into woodworking. Of course, goggles are a must.

RE: Dremel Pinewood Demonstrations at Lowes
Kodiak (2/14/2009)
try Lowes web site

down at the bottom find services

then go to in store services

then free build and grow services.
That takes you here:
https://www.lowesbuildandgrow.com/step1.asp

No, that's for a Saturday event. I can't say for other areas.

I can suggest that you will find at least two books on Pinewood derby carks at Barnes & Noble. If they do not havethem at the store you visit, they can order them for you. I think Lowes continues to stock and sell the wheels and other supplies, but if sales numbers are down at a given store, they will quit carring any given item after a brief period. A prime example is the Fordum line of bits and tools they used to carry.

Woodcutr

RE: Dremel Pinewood Demonstrations at Lowes

try Lowes web site

down at the bottom find services

then go to in store services

then free build and grow services.

RE: Dremel Pinewood Demonstrations at Lowes

The reaction from the low-wage staff is "huh?". Dremel doesn't work for Lowes. There's nobody at the stores that know who does demos.

It would make sense if Dremel knew where THEY were performing their own demos and publicized that list to maximize attendance.

RE: Dremel Pinewood Demonstrations at Lowes

Have you just called you local Lowes?

Dremel Pinewood Demonstrations at Lowes

http://www.scoutingnews.org/2009/01/06/lowes-and-dermel-tools-to-provide-pinewood-derby-help/ says:
Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores and the Robert Bosch Tool Corporation are teaming up once again to provide tips, tools, and tricks for the Pinewood Derby season.

Robert Bosch Tool Corporation is offering a a “Pinewood Derby Accessory Kit” for Dremel rotary tools exclusively at Lowe’s Home Improvement stores across the United States. Each Dremel “Pinewood Derby Accessory Kit” includes everything you need to shape, sand and create quality Pinewood Derby cars.

Selected Lowe’s Home Improvement stores will also be hosting in-store, hands-on, building demonstrations every Tuesday at 7pm from January 13 through February 24, 2009. Ask if your local Lowe’s store is participating or look for a special in-store display highlighting the Pinewood Derby demonstrations event in the tool section at Lowe’s.

Demonstrators will share building tips and techniques with parents and children of all ages, such as Pinewood Derby car building fundamentals as well as gain practical hands-on experience in using Dremel rotary tools.

Youth attending the Pinewood Derby car demonstration will receive an exclusive Dremel / Lowe’s All-Star Derby Car Demonstration Patch (15 per demonstration or while supplies last). At most locations everyone attending will receive a coupon for 10% off a Dremel tool.

For a Lowe’s store location near you, visit www.lowes.com or call 1-800-993-4416. For more information on Dremel products, project ideas and problem-solving tips, please visit www.dremel.com.
My understanding is that not all Lowes are having Tuesday evening Pinewood Derby Car demonstrations by Dremel.

The closest Lowes near me in Los Angeles is 11 miles away and the next two are about 15 and 20 miles away, respectively.

How do I find out which Lowes near me will have the demo? I phoned the 800-993-4416 number and only got info on which Lowes were near me, not a human who could tell me which branches were having the demo.

Maybe Dremel could post a calendar showing the Lowes locations holding the demos?
