Sat under the bed unopened until I opened it today. Read the manual and charged the battery for about 3 hours. When it was done charging, I inserted the battery and turned it on. I slid the speed control up and down to get a feel of how fast or slow the tool goes.

After familiarizing myself with the tool, I turned it off and installed a sanding drum. Turned the switch on and to my surprise, it did not turn on! :crying: I took the battery out, reinserted it and got it working again. I then proceeded to do some sanding on an item. I turned it on, sanded the part for less than ten seconds and turned it off. I checked the sanded part (Very satisfied how it turned out) and proceeded to sand the next section on the same item. Picked up the dremel, flipped the switch and AGAIN the dremel did not turn on! Taking the battery in and out got it working again. I then finally decided to check the dremel out by just turning it off, waiting a few minutes and turning it on. I noticed that I experienced the same problem, which is wouldn't turn back on until I removed and re-installed the battery.

Is this a common problem with the dremel 8200 or is mine defective?

8200 won't start after use then off, then back on

I just purchased an 8200; my first cordless Dremel after over 25 years of owning corded Dremels.

I've used the 8200 for small tasks lasting no more than 45 seconds of operation at a time, cutting small screws, trimming aluminum parts and shaping some plastic parts. This was done using the cut off wheel and sanding drum.

All was well initially. Eventually though, the 8200 would not turn back on. Slide the On/Off switch forward and nothing. This was after it sat off for over 15 minutes from its previous use. Taking the battery in and out got it working again.

Upon getting it to work again, I saw that the battery level indicator lights would fluctuate between 1 and 2 lights. I thought maybe it just needed a charge.

After an hour plus on the charger, I inserted the battery back into the 8200. It turned on properly and displayed 3 lights for the battery level. I proceeded to use it for more of the above mentioned short tasks. Within a few minutes of use, I experienced the same problem (wouldn't turn back on until I removed and reinstalled the battery).

Is this a known problem? Defective?

Thanks - Jim

manifold

what should i use to polish my intake manifold? best answer 10 points?

8200 battery

I bought a dremel 8200 almost a year ago and just yesterday got around to the project I purchased it for. It was fully charged but after 5 or so minutes the battery was dead. I charged it up again and the same thing happened after just minutes of use. I went on line seeking info and imagine my surprise to find this site and others describing exactly the same scenario. Luckily I purchased an extended warranty from Lowes where I pick it up, it runs out this Saturday - back it goes. Lowes had better honour the warranty and replace it with a wired dremel.

8200

Why would the shaft, and collet be loose on my brand new 8200?

I got a defective item

I had bought this a defective one last month.I had complain that to you company for 3 weeks. While their existing lineup, including the popular Dremel 4000-2/30 High Performance Kit, is very capable, the 8200 allows a portability not found in previous incarnations from the company. Partially, this is because their other cordless tools, particularly the 7.2V MultiPro and 4.8V MiniMite, all fell short when it came to power and longevity. Even the 10.8V, while technically very similar to the 8200 in power and capacity, carried the same 3-hour charge time for its Lithium-ion batteries. Now, Dremel has borrowed from parent company Bosch, integrating their 12V Max technology, and bringing its latest cordless rotary tool's recharge time down to a manageable one-hour.

Performance rating 8/10!

new dremel, high frequency whine shaft not turning

hi there,

I received a new dremel 8200 from the wife for Xmas and have been looking forward to using it on finishing the basement. I was cutting holes in ceiling drywall for the pot lights. went really well. however, the next morning, the dremel would turn on, the battery lights indicate full charge, but the shaft would not turn. there was a high frequency whine emitted by the unit. for fear of burning the motor out I shut it down and have tried several things to get it to work but it won't turn. I have cleaned the unit extensively but it still won't operate. I have read all the manuals looking for something I may have forgotten and checked all the online forums I can find but none of them speak to thie problem though I am finding what seems to be a lot of unhappy customers regarding service. if someone from dremel reads this I would really appreciate some contact, hopefully it is a simple fix because I did like the tool before it seems to have broken.

thanks,

My Experience with the 8200

I've had the 8200 for about 6 months now and have used it for various projects. It does a good job sanding and cleaning just about anything. The quality of the wire brush cleaning wheel that came with mine could be improved however. The brush wore down to nothing the first time I used it.

The fact that the 8200 is cordless is very handy - I used it to cut a couple of inches off an 8 inch pvc pipe in my front lawn so I could lower the caps below the grass line.

I recently installed plastic leaf guards on all my gutters, the 3 ft sections from Lowe's. To allow the sections to snap onto the gutter, I had to cut gaps in the plastic where the gutter mounting nails were located. This was a snap with the 8200. I left it on the roof and did the cutting on the ladder. Eliminated lots of hassles.

The kit I ordered came with two batteries and the charger works well.

Everything considered, I'm happy with the 8200 and would recommend it to friends.

Worst Dremel I ever bought

This is the worst Dremel I ever bought besides the first Battery Model. the 7.2 model works Great and so all the corded models. all this one does is flash lights for a few seconds and does nothing

8200 Bad Battery

I purchased a new 8200 yesterday from lowes. After fully charging the battery (1hr) I began using it at half speed, the light flashed after 5min of use and went dead. I then charged again (1hr) and again after 5min of use dead.
Is this a defective battery?
I hope I just got a faulty 8200

I have purchased Dremel tools in the past, but this was the first time for me wandering into the cordless Dremel rotary tool market. Picked up the 8200, threw the battery in the charger for a few hours, and then decided to work on a project that this little tool seemed perfect for.

I needed to increase the depth of a few recessed hinges, and I really did not want to take the framing apart just to use my router. Well, I got a cutting bit when I bought the 8200 for this purpose, locked everything in, turned the power on, ramped the RPM up and went to work. Things were GREAT for the first 5 minutes of my project (mind you I was not using the 8200 for 5 min straight), and then it suddenly stopped. The battery fuel gauge was flashing, so I look it up and the manual says that the battery is overheated and I should let it cool. I pop the battery out, and it is not hot at all. The vents on the 8200 are warm, but not hot as well.

So, I let the tool sit for 30 minutes, plug the battery back in, and turn it on. Not even 5 seconds passed and the 8200 stopped and warned the battery was too hot. This continued to happen multiple times, to the point where I have now just given up on the project for the night out of anger.

I SINCERELY hope that when I return this to the store for a different 8200 the issue will not be present, as I like the 8200 overall and am pleased to not have a cord hanging around.

Rick

Charger voltage on 8200

I am looking to buy a 8200 Dremel in the US but will shortly be going to Australia.
