I am trying to find tips to quickly clean copper pipe to solder it. I mainly use 3/4" pipe so i thought i could use the 3/4" brass brush(535) to clean the inside of the fitings. But i don't know what to use to clean the outside of the pipe itself. I am trying to find a tip that fits over the outside of the pipe, just a couple of inches, so i could just clean the whole outside at once. If you have any ideas please let me know.
Thanks

I dont think that Dremel has the exact bit for your requrements but I have used the 511 before to clean copper pipe before soldering it. Works great. By the way, the 511 comes in 2 grtis, medium and coarse.

my 2 cents......

I'd bet that a quick visit to a plumbing suuply store would get you the exact tool you need.

Answer to cleaning the inside of copper fittings before soldering.

I have just completed building a home and did all my plumbing, I also used many old 1/2 and 3/4 inch dittings that had already aquired a oxidized finish. I made a accessory for the dremel and used it with the Mod #8000 because it is cordless. I turned a wooden dowel (on the #401 mandrel) that would fit inside the 1/2" fitting (about 1/2" dia) then cut 4 slots into the dowel lengthwise the width of a hacksaw blade. Then I glued in place small strips of cloth backed emery cloth and let the glue dry.

When using the "flap sander" in the fitting, it cleans and polishes nicely.

To clean the outside of the pipe I have found nothing better to use than steel wool 0000 or 000 both work excellent.

Someday I will experiment with making a steel wool accessory for the Dremel that will fit inside a 1/2" copper fitting.

VERY IMPORTANT, what ever you solder, IT MUST BE CLEAN BEFORE ATEMPTING TO SOLDER. And use good quality solder.

if your prepping the pipe for soldering the best thing ive found over the years is emery cloth strips. Wrap the strip around the pipe & pull up and down with each hand several times & it's clean & ready; for doing the inside of a connector: wrap a small piece on the end of your finger & do the same thing. Use good solder & paste

I am surprised that no one suggested the tool that Mike shows a picture of sooner in this topic.  It is the tool I use and can be purchased darn near anywhere that sells plumbing supplies.  Granted it is not instant or electric, and does require a little elbow grease, but it does work well.  Most have a brush and opening at one end for 1/2 inch, and a brush and opening at the other end for 3/4 inch.  I have one, somewhere, that actually is solid rubber and has NO brushes, it is simply abrasive itself.  It works very well on non-threaded fittings and is less likely to stick you with a random wire, but the brush one is much more affective in threads.

Also, do make sure you use paste and good solder that DOES NOT CONTAIN LEAD when soldering pipes for potable water!
