I created a silver & turquoise bracelet & would like to engrave my name & date on the back of it. Which bit is the best to use? Since I'll want to practice first, but don't want to waste it on silver, what other cheap metal would you recommend I use for that?thx!

Hi
The standard engraving bits #105, #106 and # 107 are rated for wood plastic and soft metals. Since jewelry quality silver would be a soft metal one of those would do fine. As for practice material, how about a quarter??
If the material you are using turns out to be too hard for the engraving bits, then try one of the tungsten carbide cutters.
Hope that helps

There is two ways one is the model 290-1 Engraver with either the #9924 carbide point which comes with the tool or the #9929 Diamond point.
Or use the Dremel tool with a #7144 Diamond wheel point. You can get two diamond engravers in a package one is the #7103 ball nose and the other I just mentioned #7144 is a cone type nose.
The diamond wheels leave a smoother edge but as said by Curt I would practice on brass or aluminum.

Thank you Curt & Doug!! I appreciate your quick responses. I'm new to using the Dremel (so far, I've only used it to polish all of my jewelry), but I have more plans for it!! It's great to have this forum to ask questions, instead of having to spend hours in research, trying to figure out what I should use; and spending money on tools/bits that may not even work. : For future reference, I'll let you know which one I end up using. Thanks again! Mari
