Collet nut is stuck on shaft and I can not get it to move. When I hold the shaft button after a point it slips. Any ideas how to get it off.

Try spraying it with WD-40 or some penetrating oil of some type. Let it set, try not to get it up were the lock is or it will slip easier. If that don't work try using needle nose plairs if you can get to the threads in a place it will not hurt putting the nut down tight.

Its not rusted is it?

I'm sorry I missed were you said you soaked it in WD-40. The needle nose plairs I spoke of may have to be the vise grip kind. The WD-40 may take some time to penetrate it.

Sometimes, that little lock button on my XPS slips too. I find that the middle is NOT where to press it down, I grab "the rocker" end towards the back of the tool tightly with the thumb of one hand while I use the collet wrench with the other...

Maybe you did this already, maybe not

One thing which I noticed is that if my project creates alot of dust, the dust will interfere with the shaft and collet nut.

I blew out the shaft, around the collet nut, and that whole end of the Dremel.  If you do try this, be careful not to use compressed air on the whole Dremel as you may damage the brushes.

This seemed to help me out a fair bit. I still used a lubricant on the shaft and collet nut, but the nut finally came free.

Goodluck!

Barry.

For me that's a good reason to use the 'Flex Shaft' whenever possible. It keeps a reasonable distance between machine and dust.

Plus its cheaper to replace the flex shaft if something like this happens.

Yes, I too have learned to be flexible, and use cheaper options myself.

i had this same problem to (carving/engraving stones mostly and the dust is ungodly) but usually i was able to get the bit loose from the collet until the other night and it was practically frozen in place, i found the best solution tho is to go out and grab yourself an adjustable chuck to replace the collet system, this has permanently solved this problem for me plus i can now use off brand bits without a need to change collet sizes. if you go this route deffinitely let us know how it works out for you and good dremeling
