Have read a review of a gas powered cordless Dremel Versatip tool (not the corded 1550 model). Can't find any store in the USA that sells this. Any one know of a source that stocks this in USA ?

Would appreciate a link.

Thanks - Sam

Sorry Diy-sam I looked al over the web on my own for a site in the U.S to no avail. I can only give you the link of a shop in the U.K which you probably already found by yourself.

http://www.buckandryan.co.uk/product.php/section/3464/sn/DREVERSATIP

Perhaps it would be wise to contact Dremel customer's service in the U.S. At least we might know why this item is sold solely in the U.K.

I wish you luck

Enrique

Thank you Enrique, for the link. In fact I had come across the item from this same link. But UK prices are normally more than double the USA ones, so I prefer to buy from USA.

Will keep searching, and if I find a source, will post the link for benefit of any others who would want a cordless model.

The Dremel Versatip tool is sold here in Sweden too, so I think it will be available in US.

Before Dremel launched the Versatip I bought the solderpro 70 kit from Iroda. http://www.pro-iroda.com/ProKits.htm

Thanks Martin, - the Iroda tools look like a better buy than the Dremel Butane powered Versatip, with many more accessories. They seem to have all their pages under construction, so can't get any price details or specs, but it is a very helpful link.

Best - Sam

I had an accident yesterday. I should use the heat knife on the iroda cutting about 1m plastic. It was too heavy for the Iroda and the catalysator melted.

So' I had to go to the local hardware store and buy me a brand new Dremel versatip. Its bigger than the Iroda an feels much more solid.

Yesterday night i did the first soldering test, soldering the hard metal tip of the Dremel engraver . The result was perfect.

I'm sorry for the previous post, recommending the Iroda. I didn't know about the weakness of the catalysator.

Hi!

When I was using the wide flame head, the catalysator started to glow not only inside but also outside. Is it OK?

When removing any tip to use the flame ability, always check so the catalysator is tightend on the versatip.

The manual says that the head can be used with the catalyzator. In this case the tool should produce a stream of hot air insted of flame but the temperature of the air is suprisingly low (and therefore useless) as if all the heat was wasted to make the catalyzator glow.

When the wide flame head is instaled w/o the catalyzator, it produces wide flame as its name suggests, that's OK. However, after turning the flame off, the head starts to bend from temperature change and falls of the flame guard which simply means that it was too hot for it.

And what is to be done now? With the catalyzator it is useless, without the catalyzator it requires to be bent back to its normal shape after every use.
When the tool is used with any other tip it's OK but this particular one seems to be underdone.

Thanks for your help anyway.

I recently bought the Dremel Versatip Gas Torch 2000-6 and after carefully reading the manual and later using that excellent tool I infer that it hasn't been properly understood and therefore not used adequately.

If someone is interested there is more in:
