I am looking for something to route fairly small letters into wood. I remember some kind of device made specifically for doing this but I can't find it now. Did I dream it maybe or am I missing it.

Hi msaeger, no engraving letter into wood is not a dream.  I have done a couple time myselfs with my Dremel.

If you are really good, you could free hand it with the flex-shaft, but I would not recommend it because it is hard to control.

You could use the 565 multi purpose cutting guide, or,my personal favorite for this task is the 335 Plunge Router.  You can preset your depth on both attatchments.  The Dremel is also easier to control with one of these attatchments for this application.

You can get the Router Bit set 692, or an individual routing bit from the 600 series.  Or, you could even use one of the carving and or engraving bits.

I just don't know if these shorter bits will work in the 565 cutting guide.

Well, there it is. Barry.

Thanks I have the cutting guide I can try it with that. The thing I think I saw was more locked in so you were not doing it free hand but I probably dreamed it or maybe it was something for a full size router.

It is possible that you are talking about the 335 Plunge Router.  Look it up under Attatchments-Rotary Tool attatchments, and see if it is what you are thinking of.

Goodluck with your engraving.  Barry.
