****o,

Can anyone tell me what is a good tool to purchase to drill holes in stones/semi-precious gemstones and to use for crafts.  Etching mirrors, carving in wood and the like?

Also, if the tool does not come with a set of reamers/bits, what kit would be appropriate for the tool.    I have tried bead reamers, but they do not serve a purpose for making holes in the stones.

Anyones help would be awsome!

Thank-You,

AJ

You will need to use a diamond bit. Get a flex shaft and drill the piece slightly under water to keep it cool. Go slow and let the tool speed do the work.

Hi Abeader

Welcome to the forum

The Dremel will perform all the functions you require but you will need an assortment of bits and accessories.

When it comes to stones I take a back seat to Doug.

You can find info on the other projects you have in mind scattered around this site. There are several articles on glass etching in the "Projects & Community" section. Here are some links to get you started:
Etch Glass
Etch Bottle or Vase
Etch Glass Doors

The last one in particular provides some detail on technique and bits used.

You can also find some useful literature in the customer support area like this Dremel Accessory Guide

Hope that helps

Curt
