| I am extremely new to the Dremel tools. I want to cut out a hole in the back of a piece of pine 1 x 8 (practicing on pine) to put in the guts for a clock. Not sure what bits to use to get about a 3x3 square and about 3/8 deep. After playing a bit with a friends cordless I have purchased a new 300. I also have the 220 Work Station. Also while I have your ear, can I use the router bits directly in my 300? This message board is awesome and have been reading a ton of them and already have picked up a bunch of tips & tricks. I look forward to chatting more in the future

Hi Karl, the router bits can be used with the 300. We have more experienced router user's which should chime in.

| Hi KarlAlt, Doug is correct about using the router bits in the 300. If you use the Dremel router fixture, it attaches to the 300 or the 400. I have used the bits ion a number of projects. I would caution you to plan on making two or three passes to achieve the depth you want, rather than expecting the toll to be a powerful as a standard router. The Dremel advantage I have found is the control. Another tip for you; I have fashioned a plastic on the bottom of the router plate that spans the area I am working on. ( a super base plate if you will.) this enable;es you to see your work, yet supports the tool as you make repeated passes and achieve the depth you want. Patience and care will produce a satisfying result. Woodcutr

Welcome to the message board. The place Doug suggests is great. It has come in very handy and the prices are much cheaper than what you would pay in a home center. Good luck.
Thanks,
Kurgan

| Some great advice - thanks all! KarlAlt - if you're new to Dremel, you might find some of our new project videos helpful. There are several that show routing bits in use. They are in the "Projects and Community" section of the Dremel Web site and also on YouTube at www.youtube.com/user/Dremel410.
