I see lowe's is suppose to have a demo on how to build a pindwood derby car using all the dremel tools. 2 lowes locations in durham nc had no clue about it, even thought I found a dremel display listing details?

I am new to scouts/pinewood derby/ and Dremel tools.
Anyone have thoughts on how the dremel tools would work for this and also what other types of wood work or crafts can I do. I am new to all this but seems like a neat hobby?

Hi Thegaspar

Welcome to the message board

Perhaps the Lowes web site can provide better information than their local employees.

You can also find demonstration videos on dremel.com here is the link:Dremel Project Videos

Also have a look at the non-video items in the Projects & Community section of this site. The link to this section is at the top of the page.

As you may have noticed, you are the first to start a thread in the Pinewood Derby section of the board. This and a few other sections were recently added. It was only by accident that I discovered them. The point is that the other regulars may not have discovered these new sections yet so please be patient. In the mean time I will send a PM to a member I know to be involved with Pinewood Derby projects.

Good Luck!

Here is a site that has info on the cars and woodworking for Scout badges.  Have a good time!

I did a quick search on Google for Pinewood Derby and got plenty of results. This one looked to be a good site for info:

Scoutorama.com

As for Dremel use in other wood working or crafts, it's use is limited only by your imagination.

Derby car racing has even become an adult sport! We included an interview in Dremel's April 2008 eNewsletter about a man who participates and uses Dremel tools to make his car. Perhaps it will provide you with some inspiration:  http://dremelepk.com/dremelenewsletters/april2008/index.html

Have fun!

My son and I had a similar experience with two Lowe's stores in Columbia, SC.  We went tonight to a store that had confirmed today they were offering the class.  I thought this would be good for my son and that I could pick up some tips of how to use Dremel products in making the Pinewood Derby cars.  The person leading the session had been asked today to conduct the workshop but was unprepared to lead it.  He did have an instructional DVD from Dremel for Derby Cars.  Is anyone aware of where this DVD can be obtained? Thanks
