Hey everyone,

I am trying to make a pickguard out of 1/8" acrylic. What would be the best bits for the job? I already have this:

http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-Multi-Purpose-Cutting-565D/dp/B0000302YS

What would be the best bit to cut the acrylic? What about to bevel the edges? Also, do you think that I could make the same design (the part that is etched in)pictured below on material that is only 1/8" thick? I will post pictures of my progress and final product.

I would go ahead and use the 565 Cutting Kit to cut it out with. Then use the Plunge Router attachment Model 335-01 with a 615 router bit to do the edge. Remember to practice on some old stuff to see how the tool is going to act.

Thanks Doug,

Im looking at the 565 kit, and it looks like I already have it.

My question is, which one of those bits do I use to cut the acrylic? Fastest speed possible?

I also already have the router bit so I will try that. Here is a pic of some of the router bits I have... how do I know which is good for what?

Also, what would be a good bit to do the engraving on top of the acrylic?

Remember the slower the speed the less chance of melting. Don't run anything over 15000 rpm no matter what it says the speed should be run at.

As for engraving...I would use the ball nose #105 106 or #107
