Hi I run all my Dremels with key less chucks I am finding after a while they tend to jamb up or lock closed .Also a small tweak with pliers is required to hold the bits in .Is this due to the jaws wearing ?
I have spoken to a number of people and this is happening to them to
Are there any suggestions as to how I can get them to last longer .
I live in NewZealand and the cost of a spanner less chuck is $50 Nz just under half the price of a Dremel
Another question on my large Dremel that I beleive is no longer made the hand piece gets very hot after a few minutes of use .This happened from new .is there anything I can do to improve the usage time as at present I don't use it because you cannot hold the hanpice it gets that hot
Cheers Terry from Down Under

Hi Timberly,  which Dremel are you using?

I have found that sometime I need to remind myself that the Dremel works on speed, and not on torque.  Sometimes even when I am using the Dremel in the Speed fashion, it still gets too hot to handle.

What I do is I give a rest.  I hang it up and run it under no load at setting 5 ot 6 until the exhaust air has cooled down.

As far as the keyless chuck, I have the same issue,  I have had to replace mine 3 times.  I have tried blowing it out, soaking it in CLR, and then a 2nd soaking in 3 in1 oil, etc.

I have found that dust gets into the chuck.  Once the dust has entered the chuck, it causes many problems with the springs, and the slide tracks for the moving jaws.  When I find a solution, I will let you know.

My suggestion for now is use the collets and collet nut.  A little more work, but cheaper in the long run.

Barry

Thanks Barry
I took the large dremel in to see if the handpiece can be repaired they are going to check out the bearings and see if there is any restriction on the shaft
I will also see if I can get an alternative hand piece to fit .I brought this set up with foot control because it was the most expensive
Cheers

Folks:

The keyless chuck should only be used at speeds of 15,000 rpm and BELOW. For high-speed work, use a collet.

If your flex shaft is heating up, it may need lubrication. I'll post instructions if you wish.

"For almost every problem,
there is a DREMEL solution"

"When all else fails, read the instructions."
