| I have never owned a dremel before and am unsure as to which one I should try. After reading some reviews, I decided that the 300 series sounded better and sturdier than the 400 series. Now that the 4000 came out, I wonder if I should try it....there hasn't been enough time for reviews to accumulate yet, so I'd be hoping for the best. Has anyone used it? I am going to be using the dremel for sanding, grinding, polishing and drilling metals, primarily sterling silver. I want something that is likely to last. Any input?

I'm sure that a lot of input and thought has went into the Dremel 4000. I would not think twice about buying one but I have 3 Dremel's already. I think it would be a good tool

| Laurie: I am going to weigh in here, and hope that I can contribute some helpful advice. I have been a DREMEL user since the mid-1960s and I have also been (proudly) a DREMEL product demonstrator since 1996. And I still AM!!) Okay. I have not yet seen or used the new Model 4000. So I cannot/will not comment upon it. If the 4000 did not exist, I would (and have) advised any of my students to have bought the 400XPR. 2.0 amp power means lots of rotational power (torque) at low speed which is good for sanding and drilling. At high speed, lots of torque means "feather touch and very precise work" The 400 XPR will do more work under less stress than it's 1.16 amp cousin the 300 series. Both have brush-type motors and a good warranty. So you won't be chucking your tool out soon. Whatever tool you buy, make sure you get a Flex Shaft Attachment. Hope this helps! Jim

The 400 has been discontinued so they fixed all the things wrong with the 400 and added more and made the 4000 so I would suggest the 4000 over all others it has the same 5 yr warranty as the rest of the Dremel tools.
