Hi. I'm a hobbyist drum builder. I am working on getting some inlays into my wood hoops so I can apply wrap to the inlay.
My plan is to use my Dremel 4000 and the Stewart Mac Router Base set. I should be able to use a rabbit bit + this fancy precision router base set to perform two passes ( one top, and one bottom ).
At least this is the plan. I've had folks tell me to get a real router, but I disagree and believe the Dremel and Stewart Mac pair is ideal. The only drawback is that I may have to make several delicate passes...no big....patience is a virtue - right?
The inlays really need to be 1/32" deep, but since I cannot find a rabbit bit ( can you? ) that is this shallow. I will settle for 1/16" and may even accept 1/8" - bit the 1/8" would require me to use some filler to shallow out the depth.
These are unproven theories, but I believe they will work with care.
Any expert can chime in. I welcome and accept all input. Thanks folks!
