I have been using Dremel products for many years and a universal frustration has been installing the 1/2" drums on the standard mandrel. The drum will often not slide on all the way. I have tried removing the tightening screw, removing the rubber drum from the mandrel, lubricating the mandrel and various other options all to no avail. Often the drum will not go on all the way leaving a small part on the end unsupported by the mandrel. Yesterday I got all my mandrels out and tried to put new drums on and about 1/2 of the drums were destroyed in the process. Many were wrecked as I pushed the rubber into the drum the outer edge of the drum rolled over. The 1/4" mandrel is slightly easier but I still have not been much more successful on it.

I see there is a new mandrel - the Dremel EZ407SA-01. Please tell me that this will make life easier.

Thanks, Richard

I am having the same problem. I really enjoy my dremel tools but these things are real problems.

Can someone tell me how to get the things on?

Thanks for your time and have a great day,

****o again from Beth, Dremel Customer Service Representative.  On the sanding drum mandrel (the stick part of it), what you'll want to do is unthread the screw... but not all the way.  (If you unthread it all the way then you will ruin your mandrel).  Once it's loosened up, then what you want to do is hold tight to the sanding band and twist it while pulling it off... like shimmy it slowly up ... and off.  Putting another sanding band on requires the same methodm just reverse the procedure... twist, push it down and keep doing that until it's completely on.  I hope that this will help you users better with installing the sanding band onto the mandrel.  If you need further assistance, please call our Dremel Customer Service Department at 1-800-437-3635, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, CST.  Any of us would be happy to assist you.
