Hi, this is Beth from Dremel Customer Service.  The 561 Multipurpose cutting bit that you are using should do the job for you just fine.  You haven't stated what type of wood the "dog" is, but this bit will enable you to cut hardwood up to 3/8" and softwood up to 5/8".  Do remember, with this bit, it can't be used as a "drill bit".. meaning... do not enter into the piece of wood directly on... you should "plunge a 45 degree angle into the wood and then straighten the tool to a 90 degree angle.  Once in the wood, make sure that you have at least 1/8" of the tip protruding on the otherside of the material you are cutting.  If you don't, this can cause burning (also knots in wood or pushing your tool to hard can cause this as well).  If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact our Dremel Customer Service Department at 1-800-437-3635, Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, CST.  Any of us would be more than happy to assist you.
