Hi,

Is the Dremel 4000 compatible with the following attachments.

Dremel 2217 Tool Holder

Dremel 212 Drill Press Stand

If not then will the Dremel 200 be compatible with the above?

Thanks

The Dremel 200 should fit the older drill press and tool holder, made for the 285 style Dremels. Except for the new model numbers, they appear almost identical.

Alas, I don't think the 4000 fits, although I do not own one, it is much larger.

Sincerely,

****o, this is Beth from Dremel.  The 4000 tool will work with the 212 Drill Press, however, it does require a special adapter.  (These can be obtained free through Dremel, phone number provided below).  The 4000 will NOT work with the 2217 however.  The 200 will NOT work with EITHER of these items.  It's all due to the changing of the way the tool is attached to an attachment.  The most current way is where they have on the tool a housing cap that you remove and it has the threads on it... these get threaded onto the attachment.  The old version had threads "within" the attachment itself.  For further questions or to obtain the free adapter, please call our Dremel Customer Service Department at 1-800-437-3635, Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, CST.  Thanks for your question!

Factory knows best!

Maybe my memory is faulty.

While these stands I no longer have if I recall correctly, the 212 Drill Press and the 2217 holder both used a similar double nut & bolt clamp ring that tightened around the tool; you did not have to unscrew the nose cap as you do in the newer 220 stand. But, Dremel had several variations later on that I have not seen, maybe this is what Beth mentions.

If the tool was loose, you could add a grommet or a ring of rubber you could cut out of an old tire to tighten the grip and reduce side play. The new stand you are stuck with the rigidness of that plastic cup, where the tool rests.

Also, other rotary tools could use the older Dremel stands, but the 220 most often only fits Dremels.

The 212 Press I recall:

The 2217 holder I recall:

The newe 220 Dremel press/tool stand:

Great to hear from Dremel though!

Good luck.

Sincerely,

Thank you very much for the replies.

From the 4000 tool description from the website.

Dremel 4000 can use all existing Dremel accessories and attachments plus high-performance attachments to complete the widest range of projects.

http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pages/ToolDetail.aspx?pid=4000

It seems that my 212 & 2217 have the same tool holder design.

I just purchased my 4000 kit from amazon.com.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002L3RUVQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_9?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Is there an email address I can use to request the special adapter so I can fit the 4000 in my 212 drill press. I can then transfer my existing 395 to the 2217.

Regards,

Jay

I have used this in the past:

ewna.dremelweb@us.bosch.com

Please let us know how this adapter looks and works for you. I know all the new accessories will work with 4000, but I wasn't aware the older accessories work too, that is those designed for the Mototool or Multipro style bodies.

I was banking on the Dremel claim in their website that the 4000 will fit ALL EXISTING attachments thus I went for the it so as to maintain compatibility with all my other Dremel Attachments.

I was about to go with Proxxon if not for the compatibility issue.
