hi,  ****o there, A good friend of mine gave me a brand new 398 dremel as a gift before he passed away.i thought I would look after this very well as ment a lot to me! After a total of 3 hours work it died too. As was gift no receipt. Am qualified electrical fitter with plenty of experience in tool repair , I pulled it apart and found armature blown right near commutator. I went and bought one to replace it with and not even 20min work died too. Lost receipt and was totally over the dremel product even after spending lots on accessories. Down the track a bit seen the new 4000. Thought will give a try. Worked well for a while and I thought dremel had finally got something right! Only to be dismayed when the 4000 died too. With receipt returned to place of purchase nearly 2 months later still no sight of it repaired or replacement. My good friend rated your product and would be absolutely disappointed if still around to see how disappointing product and service is. By the way I purchased a $30 cheap knock off that lasted 10 times all 3 dremels I have had!!!

****o, this is Beth from Dremel Customer Service.  I'm truly sorry about all the "experiences" that you've had with our Dremel product.  The one thing that I want to point out to you (and others), right away is that Dremel ALWAYS will have a warranty of some sort on their product.  So many people fail to understand that and when something happens... they either throw a tool away or forget about it.  "Don't do this"... call us and we can instruct you to either send the tool in for the warranty or explain to you about parts/repairs or replacements ... all at great pricing!  Unfortunately, without a call from you, or you sending us your tool(s), it's truly hard to say what may have happened with these tools.  On the older model 398... it could have been something as easy as the brushes were bad.  Dremel truly is a great product and I'm sorry that you've had these unfortunate happenings.  If you still have any of the tools left, I encourage you to please contact our Dremel Customer Service Department on the toll free phone number of 1-800-437-3635.  We are available Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, CST.  Any of us would be more than happy to assist you.
