On the top of the Minimite is a blue button that when pressed will lock the shaft so that the collet nut can be loosened or tightened.  If it is broken or missing there will be now way to adjust the collet nut.  Hope that this helps.  Also whenever you finish using the Dremel always remove the bit so that the collet is loose, if you leave it tightened for long periods of time the aluminum may oxidize in which case loosening it may prove difficult.

Hi this is Beth from Dremel.  The advise that the other customer has given you, Wayne, is correct.  However, the other thing is, is if the shaft lock doesn't seem to be working, it could already be damaged from too much force.  If this is the case, we would suggest that you send your tool into our Dremel Service Center for repair.  Please call our Customer Service toll free phone number to get instructions as to how to do this.  We can be reached Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, CST. at 1-800-437-3635, Monday - Friday.  Any of us would be more than happy to assist you.
