Today Dremel announced availability of their new 4200. Unfortunately, not all their documentation has been updated. The package for the 4200 does not come with the Flex Shaft which is included in the 4000-6/50 package. Why is it not included? Does the Flex Shaft work with the 4200?

On a side note, the announcement says that the 4200 is now available from Amazon, but Amazon is still reporting it as unavailable.

Thanks.

I just bought a Dremel 4200 and the 225-01 Flexshaft attachment.  The Salesman at Home Depot said the Flexshaft would work with the 4200.  Apparently this Flexshaft does not work with the 4200.

So I am returning these items tomorrow.  What boggles the mind is that the Dremel 4200 came to market without a compatible Flexshaft attachment.  I do miniature power carving and can`t use the Dremel without a Flexshaft.

It`d be nice if we had clarification on when a 4200 compatible Flexshaft will be available to us.

I carve... therefore I am.

Apparently I am wrong. The 4200 seems to include an adapter that allows use of the 225-01 Flexshaft.  If so, I`ll be keeping the 4200.  My bad.

this is what i found and i dont know where that Piece is that I need to connect the Flex shaft ?

Can someone tell me where is it and what it looks like. Thank you

I purchased a Dremel 4200 High-Performance Rotary Tool (the new one with EZ-Change) and the 225-01 Flex Shaft Attachment.

That Flex Shaft is listed as compatible with the 4200 but the instrustions tell you to use the collet and collet nut from your rotary tool on the Flex Shaft hand-piece. The problem is that the 4200 doesn't use a collet nut and the 1/8" collet included with the 4200 is incompatible with with the Flex Shaft hand-piece. D'oh!

Please advise, this is kind of sad.

****o this is Beth from Dremel Customer Service.  I am sorry for "all of you" that have been confused about the compatibility of our 225-01 Flex Shaft onto the 4200 model.  It DOES work with it!  Now, as far as "how it works"... if you refer to your "Operating/Safety Instruction" manual that came with your 4200 and go to page 15, you will note at the tope of the page it says, "Dremel Attachments".  That first section provides wording (and pictures) of the adapter that is needed to connect the attachments (such as the 225-01 flex shaft), to your tool.   As far as the note saying that you should then use the collet/collet nut from off of your tool and put it onto the 225, you are correct, this did not come with the 4200.  A lot of our users already have a high speed rotary tool that can just use the collet/collet nut from off of that tool and switch it onto the 225.  For those of you who do not have this, please call our Dremel Customer Service Department on our toll free phone number of 1-800-437-3635, Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, CST.  Any of us would be more than happy to assist you.  Have a great day!

Beth, I have to admit I was rather disappointed to bring my new toys home and not be able to use them just because all the parts were not supplied. My wife was especially miffed because I had shown her a video how she could use it to etch glass, but she couldn't try it out because the shaft didn't work. BUT! Yes, there's a but here ...

I followed your instructions and called the number. The woman who answered knew about my problem, told me she was going to send me the collet kit via USPS First Class Mail. That was Tuesday night. Some how, that collet kit is in my hands all the way in NC today, Thursday. My bills don't even come that fast!

The flex shaft not works perfectly with my new 4200. My disappointment is gone, my wife no longer miffed. In fact, she says she takes back everything she said about Dremel. We really didn't expect the collet to arrive until sometime next week, so this weekend will be a fun time in the shop, for both of us. I have a feeling she will be asking for her own Dremel for Christmas, and if I wait that long, I'll be happy to do it so I can have mine back!

The only question I have now, is what did the engineers have in mind for all the special storage places in the case? Is there any kind of documentation to show which item goes where? Or what some of the pictures etched in the case are? It would be very helpful in making use of every possible cubby in the case! Thanks.
